It’s time for the holidays. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, the holiday parties, the last minute gift runs, and getting through the weather it’s easy to be lost in the season. Here at Pointman, we see ourselves as a family, and as a family, we want to take a breath and enjoy being with each other. Deb Spearing, Pointman’s VP of Human Resources suggested we enjoy being with each other by giving back with each other. So she helped us get paired with a local family to give holiday gifts they wouldn't otherwise be able to receive.
The “Adopt-a-Family” program through Child & Family Services tends to work with children and families involved in different situations including foster care and adoption programs. We received a family of five, and got a wishlist from each of them giving suggestions of what to buy, and their clothing sizes.
A tree was assembled with ornaments naming each gift request and the age of the child requesting it. The gifts ranged from socks to art supplies. As the days went by, the number of ornaments dwindled, and that’s when the excitement started. The tree was set up in the kitchen area, so every day we saw the pile of presents grow. "It is so rewarding being part of a company where everybody is so willing to give. I couldn't believe the generosity of everyone here! We were able to give even more than what the family asked for," noted Deb. We were asked not to wrap the gifts, so it was fun to run over to see what new gifts were placed in the pile! By the end of the collection period we had quite a full tree. For the few ornaments still left on the tree, CEO Steve Kiernan said, “Let’s make sure this family gets everything they want for Christmas,” and Pointman made a donation to cover the last few gifts.
Once the presents were purchased and ready to go, we sorted and labeled each gift. Once we were packed up it was time to drop off the gifts at Child & Family Services! Some employees stayed to volunteer and help sort the other donations.
We all felt rewarded for being part of such a special program! Happy Holidays, everyone!
